Principal’s Message
Gaagagekiizhik Elementary and Bimose Community High School is not only a small, special, private Anishinaabe school in urban Kenora but rather a sacred learning lodge where we foster the practice of mino-bimaadiziwin for our students, staff, parents, and community members. We walk together to strengthen our Anishinaabe way, and our goal is to build a better, stronger, healthier life for the Anishinaabeg by providing a holistic approach that encompasses the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual domains of the medicine wheel while also promoting a strong academic focus to equip our learners for life in a dual world.
Our days are infused with Anishinaabe language and cultural traditions including a daily smudge, Anishinaabemowin Prayer, traditional teachings, and guidance from our school staff and the Seven Grandfather Teachings. We believe in hands-on, authentic learning, including land-based learning, for our students and encourage them to demonstrate their knowledge, understandings, and gifts in ways that are unique to them.
We encourage you to come visit our school if you, or your child(ren), would like to learn and grow in a balanced, culturally, spiritually, and academically infused, supportive family environment where development of student identity and parent involvement are paramount.
